The Naked Truth Interview:
Belladonna's On Top
You can't avoid Belladonna, even if you're not a big fan -- she’s one of those names that keeps popping up. I was delighted when I got the chance to interview her at the 2006 AVN Adult Expo in Las Vegas.

P. Weasels: So, you are aware that in a lot of circles you’re on a par with Jenna Jameson, as a famous person, right?
Belladonna: Wow (laughs), that’s nice, nice nice.
PW: Is your success a surprise to you? Did you ever think you’d achieve this level of fame?
Bella: Yeah, a big surprise. (laughs) I never suspected - I actually worked my ass really hard because I thought I had to prove myself, you know? Because in the beginning, not many people really cared for me. They were like, oh, she’s got tattoos, she’s not really cute, but her body’s okay so let’s shoot her. And then I felt like, okay, well, I’ve got to make up for that, you know? So I guess I did.
PW: You absolutely have. And I’m sure you’re aware that at least some of your notoriety came from the segment 20/20 did on you. Do you have anything you want to say about that?
Bella: Yeah, I do! You know, throughout the years I’ve had different opinions on it, and now that it’s been four years, I think, since it aired, maybe three, I’ve learned that it’s actually better for me that it happened, because I got a lot of exposure from it, and people who didn’t know me know me now, and they really like me, even though maybe the industry wasn’t maybe so happy about it. But I learned a lot from it, and I had a great feeling when I did it, so I didn’t feel like I did anything wrong.
|
PW: Did you take any fallout from that personally in the industry? My understanding is that they kind of railroaded you, that they edited the piece to put you and the industry in an unflattering light.
Bella: They did chop it up, and that wasn’t my choice. I never wanted to come off as a victim. I just wanted people to hear my side of the story. It was my experience and not everyone else’s. I wasn’t saying porn is bad, I was just saying that shit happens, and it happens regardless of what your job is. But, you know, people did talk a lot of shit. I just heard things through the grapevine, no one ever really said anything to my face, but it didn’t really affect me, so it was good.
PW: To change the subject a little bit, I want to ask you, what was it like to be pregnant and in porn? I’m sure that there are people who said “I’m going to get that video because the girl’s pregnant.”
Bella: Well, yeah, I mean I definitely. It’s funny because before I was pregnant, I probably would have said I would never do that, because to me in my mind, it was something very sacred and special, but then when I got pregnant, I realized “You know what? I love what I do, and I’m going to do it at home, so why wouldn’t I share it with the people who love me anyway?” So maybe some people didn’t like it, and I understand that, that’s great, but watch what you do like with me in it, you know?
PW: Who are your favorite people to work with? You’ve had some romances that carried over to your movies.
Bella: As far as, you mean, male performers?
PW: Anybody you want to talk about.
Bella: See, this is the problem, I love -- I really do enjoy everybody in a different way, but my favorite performing is when I’m submissive, or when I can go back and forth with somebody. But as far as male [performers]? Rocco by far is one of my favorites. In Rocco: Supermoto Hard, I was just fucking - I mean, I would have done anything for him, you know? I had a lot of fun with Nacho, I really did. He was…he was a lot of who I am today. |

|
PW: Have you and Nacho worked together since you broke up?
Bella: No, he put out a movie, Nacho Vidal is Fucking Belladonna, a compilation! (laughs)
PW: Was that an amicable breakup, are you still friends?
Bella: Well, we were on good terms, it’s just that when I met my husband, I just -- I don’t like to keep relationships with exes because to me it’s uncomfortable and I don’t want my husband to feel at all uncomfortable, so I just kind of stopped talking to him. But through other people we say hi, and he’s still very nice.
PW: Is there anyone you’d like to work with if you had the opportunity?
Bella: You know, I would love to work with Aria Giovanni. I just love voluptuous women, and she’s got such a sexy face. And I like Riley Mason, I like that whole Suicide Girl look. Janine would also be one.
PW: Your look is very different from most women in porn. Your hair…
Bella: I actually shaved my head in one of the movies.
PW: For Bella's Perversions?
Bella: Well, in Belladonna’s EVIL PINK I was that short-haired; Do Not Disturb [too]. I did a scene with Vandalia and we shaved our heads together.
PW: Right.
Bella: And, let’s see, after that was Fetish Fanatics.
PW: And you had really short hair when you did the transsexual movie with Nacho Vidal.
Bella: I did one with Nacho called She-Male Domination Nation . And I shot like three scenes for my own transsexual line, but we decided we’d just put them on DVDs as extras.
PW: Well, you’re unreasonably hot with a shaved head.
Bella: Thank you! I like my short hair. (laughs) My husband does too, he says “That’s the look for you.”
PW: Speaking of your husband, you do a lot of all-girl movies these days. Do you have off-screen relationships with girls?
Bella: Well, actually, no, because when I got married I made a decision - my husband and I both agreed to just be with each other. And I do have dreams and desires to be with women off screen, but my loyalty is to my husband. So I don’t act upon those things.
PW: That’s c ommendable. What’s the best movie you’ve done, do you think?
Bella: I know you’re going to hear this always, but The Fashionistas is my all-time favorite because it’s just an incredible fucking movie.
PW: Did you ever watch porn before you were in it, and if so were there any films that you remember that made you want to work in it?
Bella: I never watched porn before I got into it.
PW: So what influenced you to get into porn?
Bella: Honestly, I got into the business and I had no idea. I mean, I was very sheltered as a kid as far as watching movies and stuff like that. And I still don’t watch it, so I don’t know!
PW: Do you have different turn-ons in your personal life and your on-screen life?
Bella: Yes! OK, you know this might sound a little freaky to guys because they don’t really like this, but I like...I like…eating man-ass! (laughs) It turns me on, it really does.
And I, I mean, I…I would love to have anal sex with my husband, although he would never let me do that. But I love armpits, I love the smell, I’ll put my face in his armpit...
|
|
PW: You like the places where a man smells like a man.
Bella: Yeah! It’s because I’m so attracted - it has to be someone I’m really into.
PW: OK. Who’s the best performer in the business today; who should we be watching for, in your opinion?
Bella: Me. (laughs)
PW: That’s true.
Bella: (still laughing) Hey, I don’t want to be rude, but…!
PW: No, no. Is there anybody else that, you know, new girls --
Bella: Yes, there is.
PW: Not necessarily the next Belladonna, but going to be big?
Bella: There’s a lot of them, there are so many great girls - I mean, Melissa Lauren, Sandra Romain, Taryn Thomas, Tory Lane -- I could go on for hours.
PW : When people remember you twenty years from now, what do you want them to remember, what do you want to come to mind when they think about you?
Bella: I just want them to remember my smile. You know, I’m always having a good time and I’m all about pleasing them.
|
PW: You are sort of the Michael Jordan of your part of the porn industry right now; in 1995, he retired to try something else; he wanted to play baseball instead of basketball for a while. Do you ever feel like there’s something completely outside of the industry that you would want to do?
Bella: Oh, definitely. I have a couple of interests I would love to do, like be a nutritionist, or massage therapist.
PW: That’s the cutest thing in the world, that you’d want to be a nutritionist.
Bella: Yeah, I mean I really got very healthy after I had my daughter. (laughs) So it’s something I - I mean, I read books on it.
PW: So you, clearly, as a performer, you have to know all about your body, that’s something that would help you to be a nutritionist.
Bella: Definitely.
