'A Very Sinful Christmas'
As commercialized and silly as they may become, the classic trappings of Christmas still have a magical appeal. Bows, ribbons, holly berries, Santa hats, sleigh bells - it's enough to whisk anyone back to simpler times, when bliss was as simple as a shiny parcel under the tree. A Very Sinful Christmas, the latest Christmas porn flick from Jacky St. James, certainly trades on these pleasant images, but it adds a scandalous family roleplay element for extra holiday zest. It combines the warm glow of holiday times with the thoroughly adult pleasure of wanton lust.
We open on a quiet Christmas morning as Codey Steele and girlfriend Freya Parker slumber peacefully. When sunlight glints through their window, Freya bounds out of the room to sneak a look at her presents. Opportunistic stepsister Maddy May slips into his bed to steal a quickie with her forbidden lover.
When Freya returns to turn coitus interruptus into a Christmas liaison of her own, a tangle of jealousies appear. Can the joyous family traditions heal all wounds in time to deliver a merry Christmas to all? It's the domain of pure melodrama, of course, but St. James approaches the material with a deft humor. The cast is amiable, marvelously photogenic, and full of combustible chemistry. And isn't the sexual side of the movie what brought us here in the first place?
Derrick Pierce is particularly memorable here as a handsome stepfather character. As he's matured, Pierce has begun to show a bit of a John Malkovich quality in his increasingly nuanced performances! (Well, if Malkovich hit the gym and could fuck like a jackrabbit, that is.)
Visually, it's not too far removed from the marshmallow-sweet Hallmark movies that fill the airwaves this time of year. That's likely the intent, though, as we imagine one of those ultra-tame flicks taking an unexpected hardcore turn! (If Hallmark could launch a "late night" channel, they'd probably zoom to the top of every ratings chart. Any shot they give St. James full creative control and an enormous budget, to boot?)
St. James cannily adds a few knowing references to the clichés of the genre, too, to let us know she's in on the joke. "You're my stepsister!" Codey Steele protests at one point. "You sound like a bad porno," Maddy May cheekily responds. The music is straight out of a goofy 1950s family sitcom, as if to emphasize the contrast with such aw-shucks, white-bread entertainment. The movie is not an earthshaking addition to the canon of Christmas porn, but it's likely to become a regular part of your holiday-flick rotation nonetheless.
